Prevocational Training

Overview

ACE Teaching and Consulting offers community-based and clinic based prevocational training where clients can cultivate general work skills and task specific strengths while enhancing skills in task performance, safety, communication and problem solving. Our services are designed to meet clients where they are and take them where they want to be - whether on a career development path, in an adult day service or seeking volunteer opportunities, just to name a few.

ACE, along with community partners, offers a wide variety of opportunities both within the community and clinic for clients to identify job opportunities and obtain supported and/or competitive employment within those fields.

Community-based Prevocational Training 

Clients work closely with ACE staff to cultivate pre-employment skills through the use of discussion, teaching, and role-play scenarios to improve their ability to obtain employment.


Clients will increase their skills in the following areas:

  • Effective communication with customers, coworkers           and management
  • Generally accepted workplace conduct

        -Arrival and departure procedures

            -Dress and body language 

      • Following a schedule throughout their work day 

                -Prioritizing and managing their workload

                  -Increase staying on task 

          • General workplace safety

                  -Discussion

                    -Outings 

                    -Mock scenarios to develop and reinforce safety                    protocol 

              • Problem solving strategies 

                • Resume creation 

                  • Interviewing strategies and techniques

                  Career Planning and Identification

                  ACE’s Community-based prevocation program assists clients with identifying areas of interest through the following:

                  • Job identification

                          - Assessment of learning style/needs

                          - Identifying individual’s likes, dislikes and interests                through discussion groups

                          - Job shadowing

                          - Attending job fairs

                  • Volunteer opportunities, with community partners, in         a variety of job fields

                          - Explore interested fields, build resume and                            generalize pre-employment skills into the                              workplace  

                  The goal is to overall find the best type of employment opportunity for the client. These types of employment include, but are not limited to, the following:

                  • Supported Employment - Clients will seek competitive employment in an integrated work setting. ACE then provides ongoing support service to help the client maintain employment.
                  • Competitive Employment - Clients who demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision will seek full- time or part-time independent work placement with at or above minimum wage compensation.
                  • Customized Employment

                          -Speaking with employers to create a position that is flexible and meets your specific needs.             This is based on matching your skills and interests with an employer's specific needs.
